FEILDING.

TENNIS.

The Feilding Lawn Tennis Club wound up its season on Saturday afternoon when Mr W. E. Carthew (president) presented the season’s trophies. In a brief review of

the season's activities Mr Carthew referred to the improvements which had been carried out by the provision of three new courts. Credit was due to Mr W. Crook and Mr J. M. Macon, whose combined efforts had resulted in the securing of the necessary ground and its preparation. The financial side was generously helped by members and the ladies who organised bridge evenings with distinct success. Mr Carthew also paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Miss D. Foster, whose executive ability had been of material help to the committee. The thanks of the club were also due to Miss Curtis for her work in regard to the laying out of flower beds and to others who had manifested a sincere interest in the welfare of the club. The past season had undoubtedly been most successful in spite of the absence of real summer weather.

The trophies were then presented to the successful competitors, • Mr Bocldy taking the club’s championship trophy (the C’outts Cup) the history of which commences in 1895 when Mr E. A. Barton, at present a visitor to Feilding, was twice successful in winning the cup. Acknowledging the thanks of , members for the part he had played in furthering the club’s interests, Mr Crook said that a great deal was due to Mr Carthew’s efforts for he had proved himself a very worthy president indeed.
