SWIMMING.

MANAWATU CENTRE MEETS

The monthly meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Swimming Centre was held last niglrt, Mr P. Robbio presiding. Also present were Messrs E. J. Werry, L. Smith, F. Lewis, B. O’Shea, H. Parsonage and R. Hadtlon (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. D. Campbell, J. Fahey and T. Twigge. The action of tho president and secretary in postponing the carnival which was to have been held on February 21 was endorsed. >

The secretary reported that he had sent the names of Messrs Campbell, Fahey, Collier and Haddon to tho New Zealand Council, stating that two of these would represent the centre at the conference to bo held in Wanganui in March. Mr Parsonage suggested that the centre sholud apply for the next junior and intermediate championships. Speaki'ig of the recent championships .in Ashburton, Mr Parsonage said that lie had nothing but admiration for the treatment the visitors had received and at his suggestion it was decided to forward letters of appreciation to the president and secretary.

Concerning: the junior championships, the Feilding Club advised their willingness to hold these together with the Herbert Smith Trust competition and it was resolved to allot the championships, as suggested, to Feilding, providing a suitable date could be secured for the carnival. The secretary communicated with Mr A. W. Thompson, president of the Headmasters’ Association, and reported that he favoured Saturday week as the most suitable date. The secretary agreed to send the necessary advice to all the schools concerned.

In regard to the senior championships it was decided to them to any club which wishes to apply for them.
