CHINESE NEW YEAR.
MASSES OPPOSE CHANGE. SHANGHAI, Dec. 31. Striking preparations are being made to celebrate the New Year according to the solar calendar instead of the lunar term.
The officials are determined to mark the change with considerable festivity. Nevertheless, the mnsses are strongly adhering do the old system, refusing to observe the foreign New Year, despite the Government’s threats of fines and possible imprisonment for those who refuse to reform.
