MILLS MAY RESUME NEXT WEEK. It is reported that operations are likely to be resumed by flaxmills in the Manawatu district at any time, and it is stated in Shannon that some will begin cutting activities on Monday next, to be followed by stripping a few days later.

REDUCTION OPPOSED

At a meeting of Tokomaru flaxmill employees on December 31 the following resolution was unanimously carried:—“That this meeting refuses to accept the wage reduction of 33 1-3 per cent, as issued by the award of the Arbitration Court.” A committee was set up to enter into any negotiations which may arise with the employers.
