PLUNKET SHIELD.

WELLINGTON-CANTERBURY MATCH.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 2. The sum total of play in to-day’s Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Wellington was that Canterbury improved its position somewhat. The previous day’s play had put Wellington in such a strong position that there appeared possibilities of an inning’s victory, but Canterbury’s bowling to-day was much better than it was on the first day and the bowlers did very well to capture the remaining seven Wellington wickets at a cost of 167 runs. Canterbury had further improved its position when in the second innings it had wiped off the deficit and was 60 to the good with eight wickets still in hand. Three wickets fell, however, toward the close of play and this left Wellington still in a strong position. However, the game is not by any means a foregone conclusion. Much will depend on what the remaining five Canterbury wickets can get to-day. Detailed scores are as follow: CANTERBURY. First Innings ... ••• 214 Second Innings.
