OBITUARY.

MR ERNEST TOMLINSON. There will be regret among a very large circle of friends, particularly in the Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay districts, at the announcement of the death of Mr Ernest B. . Tomlinson, which took place at Napier on Sunday last. Born at Sanson 53 years ago, the greater part of his adult life was spent in connection with hotel businesses in various parts of the island, but for much the longest period in Hastings, where be first became known over a-quarter of a century back. Of uniform and unfailing courtesy to all classes, of the highest integrity, and of a genial and hospitable nature, Mr Tomlinson won the esteem and regard of all those with whom he came in intimate contact, and there were few more popular men connected with the trade. He had made a personal hobby of collecting Maori and Polynesian curios, leaving behind him a very valuable collection. The deceased gentleman had never married, but there survive to mourn his loss his mother and two sisters to whom will be extended heartfelt sympathy from many quarters. His death came after some months of illness, on which complications supervened that ended in his death despite all that medical skill could do. The funeral, which took place at Hastings on Tuesday, was attended by a large number of friends, many of whom had travelled considerable distances to be present.
