MANAWATU HEADS.

GOOD WORK BY BEACH PATROL. Good work was carried out at Manawatu Heads yesterday by the beach patrol, their services being required on five occasions. On each occasion the call for assistance was responded to promptly, and the work carried out efficiently. Over 1000 visitors were present at the beach and the weather was ideal for the outing. Although the tides were not suitable, surf bathing proved to be a most popular pastime. Doubtless those who enjoyed a dip in the sea felt secuie in the knowledge that members of the Life Saving Club were patrolling the foreshore. . , ~ . , Hundreds enjoyed sun-bathing while another attraction was an aeroplane which made short passenger flights. During the afternoon a sports programme was carried out under the jurisdiction of the Beach Improvement Committee, assisted by a band of willing helpers. A collection taken up resulted in £9 being subscribed towards prizes for the races and other events which attracted many entries and hundreds of spectators.
