COUNTRY CLUB’S CHAMPION. SHIP. WON BY MASTERTON. MASTERTON, Jan. 1. _ The Masterton Amateur Athletic Club carried off the honours at the country clubs’ championship meeting to-day, securing a 61-point victory over the last year’s holders of the McVuly Shield, the lvia Toa Club, Palmerston North. A record number of clubs entered, and generally the form displayed was higher than at last year’s fixture, and several of last year’s performances were improved on. Masterton scored heavily in the cycling events, filling the first three placings in each of the championship events. The meeting was splendidly controlled by the Masterton Athletic Club, and the track at the Masterton Park was in splendid oondition.
