WOODVILLE BURGLARIES.

THREE PREMISES ENTERED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, Dec. 11. Further details of the burglaries here (reported on page 6) show that when Mr D. Meekin, a butcher, was going to work at six o’clock yesterday morning he noticed the front door of Mr A. A. Walker’s drapery and clothing establishment was open. Mr Walker was notified, and when he arrived at his shop, found everything in a state of confusion.

The front door had been forced open with a jemmy, and a raid made on the men’s department. Underwear, shirts, ties, sox and, it is understood, a suit or two, had, with some ladies’ silk stockings and other wear, been placed in two new suitcases. Further examination showed that one drawer of a till had been forced, and the other oponed by the combination. Some £4 in silver was taken, but coppers were left. An effort had been made to force an entrance by another of the front doors, but it withstood the attempt. The lock was snapped off, however. It was later discovered that a rear window in Munro’s garage had been smashed in, and a jemmy removed from the tools. The Woodville branch of the Community Stores was also entered. How access was obtained is a mystery, as all skylights, windows and doors were intact, excepting the rear door, which had been opened from the inside. Here cigarettes and tobacco had been taken. The sum of £2 13s lOd had been left in the till, the drawer of which had been left open. This was removed.
