AMAZING SCENES
WEDDING OF KINGSFORD SMITH. TEN THOUSAND SPECTATORS. WOMEN INJURED IN MELBOURNE (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 11, 11.0 a.m. MELBOURNE Dec. 11. Air Commodore Kingsford Smith was married to Miss Mary Powell at Melbourne last evening. Flight-Lieutenant C. P. Ulm was best man,, and members of the Air Force formed an escort and arch of swords outside the church.
There were amazing scenes witnessed. Ten thousand people, mostly women, fought to catch a dose glimpse of tho bridal pair. Mounted troopers and motor police were rushed to the scene to rescue the original twenty foot-police who had become overpowered. Tho dense throng blocked the traffic and broke the barriers. Some women were injured in the crush, and many fainted. Pickpockets were active, and several arrests were made.
