FOXTON UNEMPLOYED.

APPEAL FOR WORK. A large body of the unemployed in Foxton waited on Mr J. K. Hornblow, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, to-day, at Foxton, when a request was made for assistance in the shape of work. Mr Hornblow promised to do .what he could and afterwards dispatched the following telegram to the acting-Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour:

“A large deputation representing 178 unemployed men in Foxton, of whom 100 are married men with over 300 dependents, waited on me to-day to ask for assistance in presenting their case to you and the Unemployment Board. These men want work, not charity. The position in Foxton is most charity! The position in Foxton is most acute, and I would urge that you visit Foxton this week and meet the men’s representatives.- Can you do anything to have work on the Sanatorium Road, authority for which is now being sought by the Foxton Harbour Board, commenced immediately?”
