APPEAL FOR CLOTHES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I should be glad if you -would spare me space to appeal for clothes for the needy. The position is very serious at the present time, and any donations of clothing of any kind, also boots and shoes, would be very welcome. Would donors kindly leave gifts at No. 1 Oxford Street, dr telephone me, and donations would be called for.—l' am, etc., J. FARMAR, District Nurse.

The Alayor (Air A. J. Graham) wishes to acknowledge a donation of £o for the Christmas appeal fund from the Manawatu AVomen’s Club. The caretaker of a local business establishment experienced a shock shortly before five o’clock this morning when he met a man on the premises. From the indications found the man had apparently slept on some cushions on top of the safe. He was promptly handed over to the police.
