Mr Cecil J. AA’ray, who for the past nine years has been the New Zealand representative on the English Rugby Union, will visit the Dominion next year. The death occurred on Sunday of an old resident of AA 7 ellington, Mr Francis Blake, in his 84tli year. He was for a number of years in the Land anil Survey Department. The death is reported from Masterton of Mr John Montague Meredith, at the age of 68. In his youthful days he was one of the finest pigeon shots in Australia and New Zealand. Dr. E. C. Hayes, honorary anaesthetist to the Christchurch Hospital, returned to AA 7 ellington by the Maunganui yesterday after representing New Zealand at the British Medical Conference held at AA 7 innipeg in August. Mr AA 7 . L. Fitzherbert, chairman of the reserves committee, and the city curator, Mr P. Black, will represent the City Council at the annual conference of the New Zealand Park Superintendents’ Association at AVellington at the end of next January.

At AVellington vesterday the death took place of Mr R. Thompson, who was secretary of the Rangitikei Cooperative Dairy Company, Bulls. Mr Thompson had been critically ill for some days. He was very popularly known in tlio .Bulls district.

A Press Association message from Dunedin reports the death A\ illiam AUctor Kingston, aged 55, a wellknown amateur runner and winner of the 250 vards New Zealand championship in 1895, and the 250 and 440 yards championships in 1899.

A Press Association message from AA’ellington announces the death of Mr Henry Morland Gore, for many years secretary of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, also for 29 years secretary of the British Medical Association. He was a well-known amateur painter.

Mr R. G. Hatton, director of the Imperial Bureau of Fruit Production, arrived at AA 7 ellington by the Maunganui yesterday, accompanied by Mrs Hatton. He is on an Empire tour in connection with the work of the bureau, and will inspect fruit areas in New Zealand.

Earl Beauchamp, leader of the Liberal Party in the House of Lords, arrived at Auckland yesterday. He has had a two months’ holiday in New South AA'ales, of which State he was Governor from 1899 to 1901, and is leaving by the liner to-day en route to A 7 ancouver.

The death occurred on Sunday of Mr Alexander Mutrie, aged 87, one of the earliest of the AA’airarapa pioneers, and one of Masterton’s most highly respected citizens. Deceased came to the Dominion with his parents in 1851 and settled in the AA 7 airarapa about 10 years later. He was for many years a borough councillor, and was one of the oldest members of the Masterton A. and P. Association, and gained many prizes with his sheep at early shows. He was one of the foundation members of the Foresters’ Lodge, a life member of the Masterton Bowling Club, and a member of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society. He retired about 20 years ago.

A\ 7 ith 40 years’ service in the Education Department to his credit, Mr L. J. AVatkin, lecturer in art at the AA 7ellington Teachers’ Training College, will retire at the end of next January. Mr AA r atkin established the art class at the Technical College in Palmerston .North and was for six years in this centre as art master of the High School, followed by four years in London County Council schools. He returned to New Zealand to become director of the Feilding Technical School and three years later was appointed supervisor of art instruction ior the AYanganui district. He was ten years in this position and then transferred to his present office in AVellington.
