GENERAL FORECAST
A moderate anti-cyclone is passing New Zealand to the north. A deep depression is located in the western Tasman Sea. Winds veering again to nortlierlies and freshening; reaching gale force at exposed positions in about 24 hours. Seas rather rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Freshening northerly winds, rising gradually to gale force at times; seas moderate but rising. Weather fair to fine at first and warm; later conditions becoming unsettled in westerndistricts, with rain developing and becoming fairly general within the next two days DISTRICT REPORT. UNSETTLED CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for northerly winds, moderate to strong and freshening. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, with rain following? Expect mild temperatures. The barometer is falling. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. . Noon. —2ft.
