POLICE COURT.
MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT. Charged with being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful visible means of support, a labourer, Maurice Murray, aged 50, appeared before Messrs J. T. Bosworth and M. A. Eliott, J.P.’s, at the Palmerston North Police Court yesterday. Accused pleaded not guilty, but did not tender evidence. Constables Watt ajid Busch stated that they found accused sleeping on the cushions of a.railway carriage in the station yards at 1.45 o’clock in the morning. He had admitted doing no work for three weeks and had been hanging round the town. He had in his pbssession only Is 4jd. “I have never in any way been connected with a criminal offence,” said accused from the dock..

Mr Bosworth; Why don’t you work? —I have no work to go to.. A term of one month’s imprisonment was imposed. REMAND GRANTED. Ahvyn McSweeney, of Auckland, aged 16 years, who was also charged with being idle and disorderly, was remanded for a week on the application of the police, who stated their intention of inquiring into accused’s antecedents.
