AMERICAN SAMOA.
QUESTION OF GOVERNMENT
HONOLULU, Sept. 20
A Congressional Commission on Saturday completed the Honolulu hearings on the question of “Government for American Samoa.” The American and Samoan witnesses nearly all favoured more voice for the Samoans in government under American supervision.
The Anthropologist of the Bishop Museum, Dr. Stokes, urged Dominion status, with the exclusion of tourists. A group of Samoan chiefs suggested a civil governor, appointed by the United States President, with representation in the American Congress, and local legislation by a native assembly. The commission has proceeded to Pago Pago for further investigation.
