FIERCE BATTLE IN QUEENSLAND FISTS, KNIVES AND BOTTLES. POLICE SEVERELY MANHANDLED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 22, 10.0 a.m. BRISBANE, Sept. 22. Gang warfare broke out in an hotel at Paddington yesterday, when a fierce battle with fists, knives and bottles took place. At one stage seven men lay unconscious on the footpath outside the hotel, with blood streaming from their wounds, and broken bottles strewn around them.
One man is reported to have fallen with a knife in his back, but he cannot he traced.
Another one of the six, who were all arrested, had part of his ear missing, while a third had a hand bitten to the bone. Fifteen men had to receive medical attention. The police were severely manhandled until reinforcements arrived, when a baton charge was made and the row quelled.
