A very pleasant time was spent afterwards, a social, dancing and songs and supper ' being enjoyed by all. GENERAL.

An old-time dance will be held here on Friday evening, the proceeds being donated to a family in distress. Residents of this district are not often called upon to support such benefits, and it is hoped that this function will be a pronounced financial success. Interest is beinfj taken in the final of the men’s golf championship, to be played during the week-end. The finalists are Cooper and Fenwick, and the match will be over 36 holes. Private advice ha 3 been received here that Mr and Mrs A. W. Amon, and Miss Amon, who have been touring England and the Continent, are in the best of health, and have enjoyed the trip immensely. They expect to be back again in New Zealand in November. Whitebait in small quantities have been secured from tho lower reaches of the Rangitikei during the past fortnight, and when the warmer weather arrives, the “catches” may be expected to be larger. The farming community could do with rain, the pastures being in need of moisture, and the tanks almost empty. This is unusual for September. Summer pastimes are now being discussed, and it will not be long before tennis, bowls, croquet and cricket will be in full swing.

In order to raise funds for Maori, and foreign missions members of the Bulls and Marton Bible classes, under the direction of Miss Nancy Wilson, organised an entertainment and sale of work, which was held in f the Town Hall supper-room on Wednesday evening, the room being crouded. A feature of the entertainment was the part played by young ladies of the Maori Girls’ College, Marton, their native songs and dances being very beautiful. Tho members of both classes rendered songs and recitations, making a very enjoyable entertainment.
