IDLE AND DISORDERLY.

COUPLE IN COURT. Pleas of not guilty were entered by Dorothy Blake, aged 48 of Australia, and Charles Emanuel Blake, aged 60, who were charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Palmerston North Police Court yesterday with being idle and disorderly persons. Senior-Sergeant Wliitehouse said that for the past two or three days defendants had been begging at houses, and were almos£ demanding food, while they had been living in an empty house without the authority of the owners. Sergeant Hill said that a complaint was made by a resident of Princess Street, and when he visited the locality he found the couple in the house, while there was evidence of occupation. No satisfactory explanation was given of their means of support. Apparently they had slept out one night, and they had admitted asking for food at several houses. In a statement to the Eolice the female accused said that she ad been married to Blake for 20 years. “We cannot have you wandering round Palmerston North frightening people,'' observed the Magistrate, after further evidence .had been given. “You had better clear out of the town.” The accused were convicted- and ordered to come up for sentence if called ’upon within six months.
