TAHITI’S CREW.
RELIEF SOCIETY EXPLAINS. Per Press Association. , DUNEDIN, Sept. 18. In reference to the Wellington message that members of the crew of the Tahiti complain “that no relief has been given them by , the. Shipwreck Relief Society, the position is that under the rules no relief can be given a ship’s crew or passengers unless the vessel has been wrecked in New Zealand waters.
PROMISE OF EMPLOYMENT. Although there will still be many compelled- to remain 'ashore, the position as regards the. seamen and stewards thrown out of work by the wreck of the Tahiti and the laying up of a number of cargo vessels, will be somewhat relieved during the next few days when the Marama and the colliers. K'artigi and Kaimiro, are recommissioned. On the Marama, besides Captain Toten, will be two deck officers from the Tahiti and a number of the crew and stewards/ The position will be further improved when the new Monowai enters the San Francisco service.
