TOURNEY AT EILDING. WANDERERS A WIN MEN’S GAMES. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, Sept. 20. With 19 teams competing the Feilding Hockey Association held its annual . end-of-season tournament this afternoon, an interesting series of games drawing a highly successful season to a close. Eleven ladies’ teams and eight men’s teams contested the the final of the men’s games being fought out between Carnarvon and Wanderers A, the latter winning by a hit behind after playing extra time. The final of the ladies’ section resulted in a win for Carnarvon, Hinekoa bieing defeated by a hit behind after playing additional time. A brief review of the season which, officially closed to-day will show that the Feilding Hockey Association has extended itself to give devotees of this popular winter game every chance of recreation. No fewer than nine representative fixtures have been played against outside teams some being contested at Feilding, whilst in an equal number of cases the Feilding representatives have made the trip to other centres. Although the association’s teams have not been successful in lifting such coveted trophies as the Nordon Cup and the Winter Cup when played for, they have a list of successes to their credit that entitle their players to rank equal to those of one of the major associations. The following list of representative fixtures entered upon gives an indication of the activities of the association during the year: Bush (two matches), Manawatu (2), Wanganui (2), Taihape, Oroua and Wellington. In the latter match the local lady representatives distinguished themselves by inflicting a decisive defeat on the visitors from the Capital City by seven goals to nil. An annual fixture of the association that is always eagerly awaited by hockey enthusiasts is the June 3rd tournament, this year’s meeting attracting no less than 104 teams from all parts of the Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay and Main Trunk districts. Distinction was given the Feilding Association when one of its players—G. Packer—was included in the North Island rep. team, the local man adding to his reputation as an exponent of the stick game by playing a particularly fine game.
