WELLINGTON’S EASY WIN. TALL SCORING GAME. Per ’ Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. fyr Summerlike conditions obtained this afternoon when Wellington and Wairarapa met at Athletic Park, and the ground was in splendid condition. The attendance at the start was nearly 6000. Cooke captained Wellington, Harvey leading Wairarapa.' Nikorima replaced Mill, Wairarapa. The game resulted: .Wellington 42, Wairarupa 19. Wellington won tlie toss, Wairarapa opening against the sun and wind. The players took a while to settle down, combined work being at a premium. After ten minutes the Waiirarapa forwards swept play to the line, where Reid forced : his way over. Fuller failed to convert from wide out.
Wellington retaliated hotly, and after several scoring chances had been missed Oliver scored a great try near the posts, a determined solo effort taking him clean'through the opposition. Page failed to convert. Wellington continued to play an attacking game, the ball being given a great airing. Eventually from a scrum near the posts Price secured and went over. Cooke converted.
Play continued to be ragged, with Wellington using the wind freely as an aid to line-kicking. Cooke goaled from a penalty in front of the posts. The subsequent play was more even, the visiting forwards playing a big band, but Cooke was responsible for wonderful saves. Wellington came back and, securing from a scipum, the backs handled in turn, letting Mackay over. Cooke missed with the kick.
Just on half-time Julian sent Oliver over for a good try. Page missed with his attempt. Wellington 17, Wairarapa 3.
Wellington immediately attacked on the resumption, Mackay scoring after a clever passing bout. The same player missed from wide out with his kick.
Wairarapa then showed up, Nikorima nearly getting over and Fuller missing at the end of a promising passing rush. Fuller also missed a penalty from well out. Wellington’s next try was the result of a brilliant
