LOYAL MANAWATU 1.0.0. F., M.U.

The Palmerston North branch of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, i.e., Loyal Manawatu, held its usual fortnightly meeting in the Cuba Street Hall on Thurday when N.G. Bro. Stevenson presided over a large gathering of members. The lodge opened at 7.35. A letter was received from the Loyal Manchester Lodge, Feilding, accepting a challenge for the Salek Cup, the competition being in the opening and closing of the lodge, also the ritual. Bro. Quigley was nominated as judge. Bro. Watson reported on a meeting of the lodge representatives of Palmerston North regarding medical matters. P.G. Bro. Northey proposed the report be received with thanks, this being carried. The sick visitors’ report was received with thanks. P.G. Bro. Scroggs reported on a visit to the installation of officers at the Loyal Bulls Lodge, also a report on the installation of officers at Loyal Bangiwahia Lodge. V.G. Bro. Lyons reported on a visit to the annual Loyal Kimbolton .Lodge ball. P.G. Bro. Christianson reported on a visit to Loyal Apiti Lodge. Three candidates were initiated into the order, P.G. Bros. Stone and Christianson acting as conductors. Five members were proposed for membership of the order. Lodge honours were extended to a visiting member from Loyal Brittania Lodge, the visitor replying in a suitable manner. In a ritual competition for a medal presented by P.G. Sister Scroggs, the holder, Sister Sutton, defeated the challenger, P.G. Bro. Rees. Both contestants spoke in a remarkably fine manner. It was moved that the ritual competition with Feilding be held on Wednesday, October 15. It was decided that the rehearsal be held next Wednesday evening at 7.30.
