ATTRACTIVE WRESTLERS.

THYE AND McDOUGALL BOUT.

Widespread interest has been created by the announcement that the Manawatu Wrestling Association has matched Ted Thye and Scotty McDougall to meet at the Opera House on Thursday evening. Though with perhaps one exception Thye ie the most noted wrestler who has visited New Zealand, the association has acted wisely in selecting McDougall as his opponent. A rugged matrnan of enormous strength, McDiougall made a very favourable impression when he met the Austrian Ebert at Palmerston North early in the season. He proved then, to the delight of the crowd, that he was quite capable of “mixing it” if his opponent wished to make it willing, and also that ho had a very thorough knowledge of the fine points Df attack and defence. Thyo is by no means a cooing dove in the ring, though admittedly such flares as the Billy Edwards incident are tho exception. Ho has a wonderfully attractive style. A Melbourne paper, describing how Thye defeated the well-known George Kotsonaros, stated: — “The rough and tumble tactics were not introduced, and the record attendance of spectators was treated to a very clever exhibition of fast, scientific and spectacular wrestling. Thye’s defence was wonderful, and his eel-like agility enabled him to escape from all sorts of difficult situations, holds and locks.” Thye, who was lightheavyweight world’s champion until hi 6 I weight took him out of the class, will be remembered as the principal grappler who 1 put wrestling on the map in Australia. He has had a wonderful career, and Palmerston North is indeed fortunate to be one of the four New Zealand associations to secure his services.
