DULB SHOW CONTINUED. (“rom Our Own Correspondent). MARTON, Sept. 19. * The spring flower ani bu)b show was •gain well patronised this afternoon and ' eevning, the takings being approximately the same as. last year’s. The entertainment this evening consisted of “talkies’ and gramophone music through the amplifier, at the conclusion of which, Rev. B. D. Ashcroft thanked the public for the support they had given the show and the various committees for the excellent work they had done in making the show an outstanding success. The blooms looked indeed beautiful and the show itself surpassed the many past excellent exhibitions. redit is due to the following committee and helpers for the smooth running of the show: —President, Mr C. Worthy of special praise are tho judges Mr F. Mason (Feilding and Miss Abraham (Palmerston North;, whose task must have ben a difficult one. REPRESENTATIVE HOCKEY. On Wednesday September 24 the Oroua Bub-association ladies’ hockey representatives meet Feilding at Feilding for the McKelvie Cup. In selecting tho team to represent Oroua, the selections have not caJed upon players from Waituna or Halcombe Athletic, as these teams will be competing for the Par&nihi Cup next Wednesday. The Oroua team will be: Mrs Downs (Rata), Misses N. Williams (Tokorangi), M. Jackson (United), N. Stent (United), Rita Green (United), B. Potaka (Rata), Mrs Signal (Rata), Misses R. Paraini (Tokorangi), M. Managh, capt. (Hinemoa), B. Staples (United), N. Harvey (Rata). Reserves: Misses B. Batchelor (Marton Athletic), T. McDonald (United). The Oroua sub-association team have played three matches, to date this season, hav T ing defeated Taihape, and lost the remaining two, to Ruahine (Dannevirke), and Taranaki. At a meeting of the committee this evening, preside*! over by Mr G. A. R. McKoy, Mr A. Gracie was appointed, manager of the team to visit Feilding. The committee decided that no challenge shall bo accepted for the Paranihi Cup after October 1, except in the event of Waituna losing, in which event they could play a challenge game on October' 8. GENERAL. Mr J. S. Bush, president of the Marton Chamber of Commerce, forwarded a telegram of protest concerning the removal of the passenger carriage from the Wan-ganui-bound goods train from Marton each afternoon. Mr Bush has now received advice from the manager of railways to the effect that arrangements were being made to carry the school children in the guard’s van. PERSONAL. Mr W. Crawford, locomotive foreman on the Taihape Railway staff, left for Wanganui to-day. Mrs R. W. Smith, of Raetihi, is at present staying with Mr and MrsW. Batley, of Moawhango. Miss A. Buckley, of Palmerston North, is spending her holidays with her parents in Taihape. An interesting visitor to Marton to-day was Mr Bobumil Pospisil, a Czechoslovak journalist and author, who is on a tour of the world. Mrs J. H. Hall has returned to Taihape with her daughter, Dorothy, who is progressing favourably after an operation m a Palmerston North hospital.
