GERMAN MANOEUVRES.
DUMMY - TANKS AND WOODEN GUNS.' BERLIN, Sept. 18. Herr Groener, Minister of Defence, at a banquet held to celebrate the conclusion of the army manoeuvres in south-west Germany, said that only one cavalry and one infantry division participated, and dummy tanks and wooden guns were used. There were no aeroplanes. This contrasted with two French manoeuvres held within a fortnight; each manoeuvre had 50,000 men. “This comparison alone,” Herr Groener said, “gives the lie to those who see our army as a menace to our neighbours. Those who know all that is required of a modern army must know how silly .it is to assert that Germany by mobolising her reservists would be able to put a big army in the field at short notice.”
