THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The anti-cyclone over New Zealand has intensified but a deep cyclone has formed in the south Tasman Sea. The Port Bowen, in latitude 42 south, longitude IG3 east, reported a strong east-north-east gale with a very high sea and a falling barometer. Freshening north-east to northerly winds, rising to gale force in places. Seas smooth Vj moderate, but rising. Strong east to north winds in the eastern Tasrnan Sea, reaching gale force in southcm portion with high goas. W eather fine at first in most places, but becoming dull and misty or foggy; general rain developing, with some heavy falls and possibly flooding, later, in places. Temperatures mild. DISTRICT REPORT. MILD TEMPERATURES. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate northerly winds, freshening later. Expect mild and hazy conditions, later changing to dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts and probably rain. Temperatures mild. The barometer is falling. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —18ins.
