PALM ISLAND TRAGEDY.
BRISBANE, Aug. 14. Peter Pryor and Thomas Hoffman, who were charged with the murder of Robert Curry, superintendent of the Palm Island aboriginals, have been acquitted. Tho Crown entered a nolle prosequi. Mr Justice Douglas said that tli© community on Palm Island had every right to protect itself when a man such as Curry threatened the lives of those on the island.
Police who went to Talm Island to inquire into tho affair ascertained that Curry, after running amuck on Palm Island, and wounding Dr Patterson and the mtaron of the hospital, went to I‘antomo Island and killed his daughter and son and burned tho home. 'I hen when returning to Palm Island natives shot him dead while landing. The bodies of the daughter and son were found in the ruins of tho home adjoining tho island. Curry evidently was greatly worried over, complaints of his treatment of tho natives.
