LICENSING ACT.
Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 14. The reserved judgment of Mr Tate, S.M., was delivered this morning in the case in which Reggie Uncles, of Fitzroy, was charged that, not being licensed, he sold three bottles of beer to Andrew Hansen. He was fined £lO. On a second charge of manufacturing wine for sale without a license, he was fined £5. . The smaller penalty was because much confusion existed as to the legal requirements of a license to make wine for sale from parts of plants other than fruit, such as parsnip, rhubarb or beetroot wine. Defendant was ordered to pay costs. The liquor and the containers were forfeited.
An appeal is possible on the ground that Uncles was not proved to be the occupier of the premises.
