GIRLS’ MUSIC CLUB.
ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. A high standard of musical, ability was disclosed at the Broadway Lounge last evening, when members of the Palmerston North Girls’ Music Club contributed a lino programme of instrumental and vocal items. There was a largo gathering, and the fare provided was thoroughly enjoyed. The programme was as follows:—lnstdumcntal trio (Arensky), Mrs J. Fisher, Miss E. Gordon Eliott and Mrs F. Collier; song, “Only a River Running” (Hopkins), Miss M. Dewis; violin solo, “Sonata No. 17” (Mozart), Miss C. Wood; piano solo, “Romance in F Sharp” (Schumann), Miss J. Wycherley; ’cello solo, “Ave Maria” (Schubert), Miss G. McKenzie; song, “Not Understood” (Houghton), Miss D. Morgan; violin duet, “Tarantella” (Drdla-Chaminade), Mrs R. Law and Miss J. Hankin; piano solo, “Etudes Symphoniques” (Schumann), Miss M. Muirhead; song, “Crimson Petals”, (Quilter), Miss V. Corke; violin solo, “Serenade” (Kreisler) Miss J. Hankin; piano solo, “Scherzo, B Flat Minor” (Chopin), Miss E. Gunter; song, “Bird With a Broken Wing” (Golson), Miss E. Trask; instrumental trio, “Duetto” (Mendelssohn), Misses D. Welton, E. and V. Gunter; violin solo, “Romance” (Wieniawski), Miss F. Howley; ’cello solo, “Sonata” (Boellernian), Miss D. Welton; violin solo, “Ave Maria” (Gounod), Miss P. Hausemann; song, “A Birthday” (Cowen), Miss G. Laurenson; instrumental quartette, “Rosemary,” Mesdames J. Fisher, F. Collier, Misses B. and E. Gordon Eliott.
The accompanists wore Mesdames J. Paton and Barlow, Misses E. Corke, M. Muirhead, M. Buchanan and D. Stephens. At the conclusion of the programme, Mrs Fisher, president of the club, voiced the thanks of the members to Mrs Law for her assistance and that of her pupils to the club at all times. In expressing the thanks of the audience, Mr T. Attwood said ho thought that the two most wonderful things in the world were the making of beautiful music and being able to listen to it. The audience had certainly had very great pleasure that evening and he congratulated the club on the fine work they were doing. He wished the club a long and prosperous existence, feeling sure there was a bright future in store for the members. The guests were later entertained at a most enjoyable supper.
