Stiles, Ol Puhneiston North, was a visitor to 1 oxton yesterday. The Foxton .borough Council's share ot heavy tralho lees lor the quurtcr ended June 30 amount to £49 be id, a cheque lor which sum has bouu forwarded by the collecting authority, the Kanauga County Council. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was neid oil Monday afternoon and was presided over by Mm W. Trueman. There was a good attendance of members. The nurse’s report showed that visits during July numbered 137. Mrs J. Martin was appointed society visitor for August. A donation of 4s llid was acknowledged, being proceeds from Mr Corn’s weigning inacnine. Tho secretary was ordered to procure a weighing machine to weigh older children ion and thus holp tho socioty to carry out its good work in helping children of school age. An estimate was received for alterations to rooms for. the society and it wus decided to get plans for the erection of tho building at an early date. ' The death took place at Moki, _ near Rotorua, on Sunday, of Awatea i’itihcra, the mother of Air Roore Rangiheuea, of Foxton. The deceased was of high rank in tho Wairangi tribe. It was the mother of deceased who, when Rowi was surrounded by the Imperial troops under General Cameron at Orakau, refused to leave the pah but sent out the message that she and tho other women preferred death with the warriors to surrender. A big tangi is being held at Moki. Air Roore Rangiheuea leaves for Alioki to-day.
