At Lansdowne Park this afternoon, in the presence of a record crowd, Great Britain defeated Marlborough, Nelson and Golden Bay by 41 points to 3—a record for the tour. Though ranking individually as minor unions, Marlborough-Golden Bay-Nelson played their part well. They had a big task, and tackled their formidable undertaking in real Rugby style. Britain won the toss and played against the sun. Within five minutes of the commencement, from a line-out the ball went from Murray to JonesDavies to Knowles, who ran half way and passed to 'Wilkinson, who scored near the posts. Black failed with the kick. The reds infringed and Parker landed a goal from halfway. Shortly after the final whistle blew with the scores Britain 41, Combined 3. Mr G. Bradley. (Wellington) was the referee. After the game the players joined hands in the centre of the field and sang “Auld Lang Syne,” the great crowd joining in heartily. The team left by the five 0 clock train to catch the Tamahine for Wellington.

The Wellington Rugby Union last night decided to issue a challenge to the Southland Rugby Union for the Ranfurly Shield, and to notify the New Zealand Union that the match at Invercargill on September 3 would be a match for the shield. JUNIOR MATCHES. On the recommendation of the junior Advisory Committee, it was agreed that the match between the Horowhenua juniors and Wellington thirds should be played on August 23, and the match between the Manawatu thirds and Wellington fourths on August 30, both matches to be played at Wellington.
