ASHHURST COMPANY. OUTPUT FOR SEASON. SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT. The Ashhurst Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., has experienced, a good season, and the seventeenth annual report to be submitted to shareholders and suppliers by the chairman of directors (Mr J. C. Williamson) is as follows:—The output of cheese for'the season was 158 tons, 18cwt, 3qrs, 81bs, all of which was sent on consignment, with the exception of 2i tons required for local consumption. The prices realised on the London market showed a marked decline on the previous year’s figures, and it is apparent that we are faced with a period of lower values for our produce. According to reports from the United Kingdom, the indifferent quality of much of the New Zealand cheese has undoubtedly been a contributing factor in weakening the market. The remedy for this is largely in the hands of the producer, who, by maintaining the good quality of his milk, will materially assist in the manufacture of a good article. Your directors recommend that tins question be fully discussed before the commencement of the new season.

The purchase of a standardising plant was effected during the season, and the bulk of our output was standardised. The benefit of this process was discounted, considerably hy the low prices obtaining lor butter, but figures will be placed before vou at the annual meeting, giving the results as far as they can be ascertained. The balance to the credit of the appropriation account is £833 17s Id, which your directors recommend be dealt with as follows:—(1) To make a further payment of Id per lb on hutterfat supplied in January. (2) To make a further payment of 2d per lb on butterfat supplied in February. (3) To make a further payment of 4d per lb on butterfat supplied in March, April, May and June. This will absorb £643 13s'6d, and bring the average pay-out for the season to a little over Is 5d per lb. (4) To pay a dividend of five per cent on paid-up share capital as at June 30, 1930, which will require £llO 3s 6d. This leaves a balance of £BO Os Id. Since the year’s accounts were finalised, your directors have disposed of all the export cheese which was unsold at the 30th June (and which, for balance purposes, was valued at f.0.b.) at 7£d f.0.b., which will ensure a further payment on March, April, May and June butterfat. In accordance with the articles of association, two directors retire, viz., Messrs J. Evans and T. Paton, both of whom, being eligible, offer themselves for reelection. Mr J. W. Whitaker retires from the position.of auditor, and offers himself for re-appointment.
