Mr J. Davidson returned last week from a brief holiday spent in Suva, Fiji. Mr Davidson participated in the rinks bowling tournament there. Dr. G. McLean, medical superintendent of Pukeora Sanatorium, Waipukurau* is leaving shortly for the Homeland to enter upon a refresher medical course. A London cable states that Messrs S. Beckingsale and A. W. Bowden, of Wellington, New Zealand, have qualified for associateskips in the Institute of Actuaries. Mr J. W. Fergie, formerly, of Palmerston North, and now stationed at Wellington, was presented with a gold medallion at the annual smoke concert of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers’ Institute on Saturday evening. The award was for services rendered, said the president of the institute, Mr V. R. J• Stanley, in making the presentation. Mr Fergie had held office in the institute in almost every capacity, Mr Stanley added. In honour of his 83rd birthday Mr Charles Dixon, one of the original settlers of Masterton, was entertained on Saturday afternoon by the Masterton Borough Council. The guests in,cluded representatives of civic organisations and many aged citizens who were associated with the town in its initial stages of development. These identities included Mr E. Jones, aged 76; Mr C. Bennington, 81; Mr H. Bannister, 72; Mr C. Bentley, 82; Mr G. Smith, 86; Mr J. Hessey, 83; and Mr J. Blatchford, 87.
