An appeal published in the London Times for a “pension” fund for Matthew Wellington, the aged servant of David Livingstone, yielded the sum asked for—£s2, a year. Matthew will now have a regular monthly payment for the rest of his life, as well as a small sum specifically given to him as birthday and Christmas gifts.
