(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, June 21. A concrete example of the saving which accrues from shipipng through the port of Foxton was evidenced in the shipment of pipes for the Palmerston North Borough Council which arrived in Foxton this week. A scow brought in 70 tons of iron pipes for the Palmerston North borough and had these been forwarded by rail from Wellington to Palmerston North tho cost of railage at 34s 9d per ton, would have been £l2l 12s 6d; from Wanganui to Palmerston North, at 28s lid per ton, £lOl 4s 2d; and from Foxtion to Palmerston North the railage was £sl 6s Bd. The saving of freight to the shippers by using the local port is clearly demonstrated. The . now retorts and fire bricks for the alterations to the works recommended by the Palmerston North gas works engineer in his recent report on the state of the works arrived this week.
