The conditions wero for a pen of nnibs not over 421bs. in weight, to bo judged in London, and out of a fairly largo number of entrants, Mr Johnston secured the trophy. Another Cheltenham breeder, Mr W. Booth, also secured a cup presented by the same firm, Mr Booth’s class being for a pen of slieep up to 621bs. in weight. RUGBY. The Oroua sub-union fixtures for Saturday are as under: Seniors: Wanderers v. Apiti at Cheltenham, Mr C. Peek referee; Waituna v. Kangiwahia, at Rangiwahia, Mr J. Bennett; Kimbolton a bye. Juniors. —Wanderers v. Apiti, Mr C. A. Spence; Waituna v. Rangiwahia, at Waituna, Mr N. J. Short; Kimbolton a bye. MANAWATU B v. KIMBOLTON. Rarely do two packs take the field so evenly matched as were those of tho Manawatu B representatives and tho Oroua SubUnion’s elect on Saturday last at Kimbolton. Throughout both spells tho two frontal brigades toiled to tho utmost, tho battle raging up and down the field, first to tho advantage of one then the other. In poundage the blues perhaps had tho upper hand, but there were several wearers of the green and white uniform, Flowers among others, who turned tho tide timo and again by sheer doggedness and speed. Tho battle between the two wingforwards —A. Waldin for Manawatu and Parsons for the blues —was clean and sporting throughout with tho tall Feilding man carrying oil the honours by a narrow margin. Waldin was well on his game on Saturday and played the rovor morn than his usual purely wing-forward game. There was little to pick and choose between the wingers of both sides, Kearney and McXae being every bit die equal of the two green and white representatives, T. Amadio and GrifTen. The advantage the visitors possessed lay in the inner backs — Cochrane, Mitchell and Moore—quite outplaying their opponents in position—Shannon, Fuller and McDougall. The combination of these three Manawatu players was a happy move and their play would have proved a hard nut for a much stronger opposition to crack. Cochrane made the only error worth recording when he failed to pass out to Amadio after having done good work in getting through the defence. The try would have been his none the less as Amadio could hardly have tailed to score. Feamley gave no doubts as to his capacity to defend and his vis-a-vis, Berchan, was also very sound. There was also little between the two donkeymen—McCarty and Buckman—the Manawatu man, however, showing tho more finish. On the play there was certainly not six points, between the teams as for the greater part of the second spell Manawatu were defending hard, and it was one of Flower’s sorties into the invaders’ territory that finally raised the siege for the superiority of the inner backs to turn to advantage when the blue goal was reached. Oroua are certainly to bo congratulated on the forwards they possess and in their annual match with Te Kawau the representatives from the latter sub-union will need to be on their game if the wearers of the blue and black uniform produce the form they showed on Saturday.
