ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON, May 21. Tho council'of tho New Zealand Football Association met last evening, Mr F. Campbell presiding. Twenty-five entries were received for the Chatham Cup competition, as follow:—North Island: Wellington 8, Wanganui 2, Auckland 4, Manawatu 1. South Island: Otago 5, Canterbury 5. The competitions committee was directed to proceed with the arrangements for play. A letter was received from Mr J. C. Young, of Palmerston North, forwarding a cheque for £5 as a donation toward the funds of the association in response to the appeal for help to liquidate the bank overdraft. A donation of £1 Is was received from Mr A. G. Barrett, who had been elected a vice-president. The Auckland, Wellington and Otago associations wrote approving of the proposal to revert to the original method of playing for the F.A. trophy. Canterbury disagreed, urging that the challenge system should operate for tho present season. The chairman said that no change could ho made unless the four major associations were unanimous on the matter. He moved that the competition be played on the challenge basis this season, and hoped that a challenge would be made in time for a game to be played in July. This was agreed to.
