CLASHING OF COLOURS. BRITISH TEAM’S REGRET. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, May 17. _ Referring to the protests made in the different centres regarding the change of the New Zealand Rugby colours. Dr. G. J. Adams, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, stated to a newspaper representative to-day that if the people of New Zealand only knew the regrets of Mr Baxter and the members of the British team at the clashing of the colours there would be no adverse comment. If Mr Baxter had been able to change the colours he would have done so, but it was impossible. Dr. Adams said that in view of this impossibility it would be New Zealand’s duty to avoid an embarrassing situation. New Zealand was a daughter of the Mother Country, and he felt sure that New Zealand sportsmanship tfould prevail. MATCH AT WANGANUI. h. J. McKenzie to referee. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 17. Mr H. J. McKenzie, of Wanarapa, will referee the British Rugby match at Wanganui on Wednesday. Mr Rowe, of Wanganui, will reteree the Taranaki match next Saturday, SOUTH ISLAND TRIAL. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. C. Oliver replaces Carleton as centre threequarter in the South Island Trial match on Wednesday next.
