DOG ILL-TREATED.
WOMAN FINED £5. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, May 17. A charge of cruelly ill-treating a dog by throwing scalding water over it was denied by Mrs Hannah Stewart (Mr Caldwell) in the Huntly Magistrate’s Court. Constable Rimmer produced a statement signed by Mrs Stewart, in which she said that she had been annoyed by a number of dogs fighting at her house. The dog frightened her baby and upset her washing, and she threw a bucket of water over It. The water water was not boiling. Mr Caldwell submitted that it it were found that Mrs Stewart had thrown water over the dog she was justified in her action on account ot her children. ~ T „ Defendant was fined £o. Mr Lovien, S.M., remarked that had the action not resulted from a fit ot anger the fine would have been trebled.
