WOODVILLE.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH. WOODVILLE, May 16. Rev. G. W. Davidson presided over a largo attendance at the annual meeting ot Holy Trinity Church in tho Parish Hall. The following ten were nominated for vestrymen, and this being tho required number, they were duly clectod: Messrs C. F. Baker, T. C. Rhodes Jackson, J. F. Jaine, G. L. Hartridgo, J. Mabey, A. C. Vowcll, H. Coston, M. Poulton, E. W. Ruddick and W. Arrow. Mr W. A. Lyon was re-elected auditor. Mr Davidson announced that he had great pleasure in again appointing Mr W. Hughes his Warden. Mr E. H. Giles was re-elected People’s Warden, on the motion of Dr Mules. The Sunday School balance-sheet, showed a credit of £l2 18s 4d. The roll number was 73 (50 senior and 20 junior). A comprehensive vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing wardens and vestry, to all Church workers, Sunday School superintendents and staff, lay-reader, ladies’ and sancutary giulds, choir,'organist, organ blower, auditor and Rev and Mrs Davidson. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. At a meeting of the Woodviile Chamber of Commerce the secretary of the Gore Chamber of Commerce wrote for support in a project to approach tho Railway Department with a view to extending the concession in rail fares from the age cf 12 to 14 years inclusive. It was contended that the child of 14 years was in no better position to pay than the child of five years, while the cost of clothes, maintenance and education was considerably increased. It was decided to reply that the Woodvillo Chamber could not support the project. Mr Skinner advanced thd opinion that the time was now ripe for tho aboltion of Anzao Day and urged thci meeting to pass a resolution in support of his contention. The motion lapsed for want of a second6r’ FARMERS’ ASSOCIATION. The fourth annual report of Woodviile Farmers Association is as follows: The year’s working of tho saleyards has again prove* 1 very satisfactory. Prices throughout tho year have been much .bettor than usual and sales have maintained a good standard. Tho sale held on March 3 of this year was a record for. the aseociation. Excellent prices .were given for all classes of sheep, and the sale realised over £4500. The yards were taxed to their fullest capacity, and temporary pens had to be orocted. The profit on the year’s working amounts to £95 Is 2d, and tho_ directors recommend that the amount be distributed as follows: 2i per cent, depreciation on yards (£2l 8s 6d) and a dividend of 6 per cent, bo paid on all fully paid-up shares (£SB 10s), and the balance £ls 26 8d be carried forward. The financial position of the association is very satisfactory. During the four years’ operations, the preliminary expenses account of £lls 17s lid has been paid off and £7l 16s 4d placed to depreciation account on yards.” The retiring directors are Messrs J. C. Bolton and J. M. Hutchinson, who offer themselves for re-election. Tho retiring auditor, Mr E. Grant Sim, also offers himself for reelection. GOLF CLUB. Tho annual meeting of tho Woodvillo Golf Club was held on Tuesday evening, Mr F. D. Mockie presiding over a fair attendance. Tho following officers were elected for tho ensuing year:—Patron, Mr F. Ormond; presidont, Mr George Peebles; vice-president Mr J. C. Bolton; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Mackio; committee, Messrs D. Peebles, J. Elder, W. Norman, M. Pickering, and D. Finer. The following new members were elected: Mr and Mrs O. Wall, Mr R. E. Vile. It was decided to open the season on May 24. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr F. Ormond (for tho uso of his . land), Mr G. Peebles for the many sorvices rendered the club during tho past season, and to Mcsdames Davis and G. Peebles for supplying ’afternoon teas. CROQUET CLUB. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in the Parish Hall on Wednesday under the auspices of the Ladies’ Croquet Club. There was a good attendance and a short but pleasing programme was given by Mesdamee Keay (song), Cuming (recitation), Misses Bailey (song), Betty Halpin (recitation), Nancy Nelson and Sybil Morgan (pianoforte duet). Mrs J. S. Nelson played the accompaniments. Competitions were also held and afternoon tea was served HOCKEY. The Woodviile Hockey Club played a match against Eketahuna, runners-up in the 1929 season, on the Woodviile rccrca-

tion ground on Wednesday afternoon. Woodville winning by six goals to one. Strand secured two goals, Teague one, Hutchinson two, Rendle one. The game was controlled by Mr Cavannagh. The ground was in excellent order and there was a fair attendance of tho public. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. An old-time dance and euchre party was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Wednesday evening by the Women’s Institute in aid of the proposed rest room. Dancing and cards were indulged in and supper was provided. PERSONAL. Mr J. M. Riley, of Te Awamutu, is visiting Woodville. Miss M. laherwood, of Rotorua, is visiting Mr and Mrs W. C. R. Isherwood, Woodville. Mrs A. Davidson, of Grey Lynn, Auckland, and her two daughters, are spending a few days in Woodville, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs D. Kemp, of McLean Street. Mr W. J. Ticehurst, who was born in Wellington, 84 years ago, died at the residence of his son at Matarawa on Sunday night. One of his daughters, is Mrs Morris, of Woodville. The death has occurred at Rongomai of Mr A. Johnston, manager of the Rongomai cheese factory. He had been suffering from a heart affection for some time. Ho leaves a wife and three children, the oldest of whom is nine years of age. Much sympathy will bo felt for the family.
