HOURS QUESTION. Received May 17, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, May 16. In the House of Lords, in Committee on the Coal Bill, Lord Melchett moved that the 7i-hours day should operate for four years instead of the arrangement lapsing in July, 1931. This was rejected by 85 votes to 65, but Lord Gainsford’s amendment was carried by 123 votes to 16, enabling agreements to be made to work ninety hours a fortnight instead of 7i hours daily. , The Committee stage is concluded.
