TAIKOREA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIKOREA, May 14. After a 6pell of gloriously fine weather, rain is threatening. Frosts at night, however, have been very severe, and the cows are drying off quickly now. On Friday, May 9, the usual fortnightly euchre and dance was held in the Taikorea Hall. The night was fine, though cold, and a very good attendance resulted. Play was very keen and fast. The results were: Ladies, Mrs M. Turner; consolation, Mrs Castle; gentlemen, Mr E. Grey; consolation, Mr Prier. Aftor the prizes had been presented a dainty and enjoyable supper was distributed, after which dancing was indulged in till the small hours of the morning. The music was supplied by Mr Jack Potoka, extras being played by his friends. On Friday afternoon the Taikorea School broke up lor a fortnight’s holiday. The occasion was mado festive by the distribution among the scholars of coloured paper hats, the making of which was attended to by the members of the lower school, and a gramophone recital was interspersed with items by the scholars. Friends of Mr S. E. Algar will bo glad to learn that he js at homo once more, and well on the way to recovery from injuries received in an accident a little over a fortnight ago. Mrs Prier has returned home after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs Lover, of Rangiotu, who has been very ill. Mr and Mrs Castle are away on their holiday. A meeting of the directors of the Taikorea Dairy Co. was held on Friday, May 9, those present being Messrs Algar (chairman), Hancock, Hill, Johnston and L. Mudford, also Mr C. Massey (secretary). The usual business was dealt with, accouns passed for payment. The pay-out for the month decided upon was Is 3d per lb of butter-fat. The question of installing a kerbside pump was discussed and it was decided to have one installed as soon as possible. Thi6 should be a great convenience to Taikorea and district as practically no farmer is without a car in these days, and the local pump should be much appreciated.
