GALLANT RESCUES.
SUVA, May 14. The Governor of Fiji, Sir Murchison Fletcher, presiding at the opening of the Legislative Council, presented to Captain Edward Twentyman, harbourmaster of Suva, the badge of the Civil Division of a Member of the British Emnire. The captain’s record includes: At the age of sixteen, a gold watch for rescue at a fire; for a gallant rescue of a drowning man at Carpe Town, a sextant. In 1898, in Sydney Harbour,. he rescued a drowning man, .winning the silver medal of the Humane Society. In 1919 at Levuka, Fiji, he rescued the master of the ship King Cyrus from poisonous fumes, winning the silver medal of the Humane Society and the gold Stanhope medal for the most meritorious deed of the year. In June 1929 he assisted in rescuing a drowning passenger off Suva Harbour. A Fijian boatman (Aliki) also received the M.B.E. for assisting in the la6t incident.
