MAGISTRATE’S COURT. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, May 14. Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., prrekVil over the fortnightly sitting-of the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Riding an unlighted cycle Co6t J. Gronshinski 10s and cost 3. For a similar offence G. Syme was fined 15s and costs. CIVIL LIST. Judgment by default was granted plaintiff in tho following undefended civil cases: —Herbert Smithers v. E. Hodgetts, £3 11s, costa £1 6s 6d; Wackrill and Stewart v. G. Mann, £ls 3s 3d, costs £2 146. RESERVED JUDGMENT. The Magistrate gave his decision in tho case in which G. A. Fiebig, Ltd., claimed £248 6s 6d from A. H. Sutton and Coy. for alleged broaches of a lease in respect of premises situated on tho corner of Manchester and Fergusson Streets. After reviewing tho case at great length, the Magistrate found that plaintiff was entitled to recover £49 17s 6d, but as the amount recovered wna less than one-fourth of the amount claimed, and on the first two heads of damages tho plaintiff had failed, Ihe Magistrate thought i| would bo inequitable to allow the plaintiff further costs than those paid into Court. An. order would therefore bo made for the payment to plaintiff of tho sum of £8 16s 6d paid in Court by defendant. At tho hearing Mr Ongley, with Mr Seddon, appeared for plaintiff and Mr Cullinane for defendant. DISTRICT NURSE. Rev. Canon Petrie presided over the monthly meeting of the District Nurse Association. Sister Smith reported that sickness was fairly prevalent. She had paid 321 sick visits during tho month, six jjatients were discharged and two sent to the hospital, leaving 15 on the books. Food, fuel, clothing and fruit were given to nino families and medical comforts to three patients. Gifts of fruit were received from Mrs Sauer, Mr Mason and Mr Theed, clothing from Mesdames Miles, Wild, Fry, Taylor, Bnoad and anonymous. Donations received were: —Mr Poole £l, Mr Turnbull £l, Mr G. T. Palmer £1 Is, Mrs O’Connor 10s, Miss Bowler 10s, Mrs Cobbe £l. Accounts amounting to £lO 9s were passed for payment. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. Mr F. H. Stockwell presided over a mooting of the council of the Feilding and District Acclimatisation Society last night when there were also present Messrs B. E. Dun-ant, P. P. Stevens, C. J. Wickham, F. 11. Billing, E. Ingram, T. Burnc, J. P. Jepson, D. G. Fraser and A: H. Marshall. An apology for absenco was received from Mr E. H. Lange. In regard to a communication from tho Department of Internal Affairs, offering to supply tho society with selected rainbow trout ova and fry, it was decided to inform tho department that tho society has already arranged for tho current year's requirements. A request was received from the executive of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies’ Association for the Feilding Society’s promised lovy of 10 per cent, of its fishing revenue towards the funds ot tho central fish research committee—The secretary was authorised to make payment of tho amount. In roply to the society’s request to the Wellington Acclimatisation Society that tho minimum size of trout bo raised from nine inches to 10 inches, tho Wellington Society stated that tho fish committee hod advised that it would not be desirablo to interfere with tho present minimum as there was a largo number of takeable fish in the Wellington streams slightly over the minimum length, and it was thought that anglers might as well havo tho beneht as the streams were stocked heavily.—lt was decided not to take any further action in the matter at present, as it will como up for review later. Tho Department of Internal Affairs forwarded notification that white swans and Stewart Island shag and the bronze shag had been gazotlcd as absolutely protected birds.—Received. . Mr G. R. Lovelock wrote offering to supply the society with pheasants. Following a discussion on the procuring of theso birds, it was decided to take steps to obtain the necessary supply. ... . The chairman introduced the subject ot shag destruction, pointing out that theso birds were doing an immense amount ot harm to fish stocks in tho streams. Ho related an instance which had occurred to himself and other sportsmen at Apiti recently when threo shags which were shot were found to contain nine hsh. Other speakers agreed with the chairman regarding tho destructiveness of shags and it was decided to pay 2s 6d per pair for all shags’ feet brought to the secretary that had been taken in tho Feilding district. The annual general meeting of the society was fixed at June 11. PERSONAL. Mr L. Bramwell, of Feilding, leaves on Saturday for tho Old Country. Mr Bramwell expects to be away from New Zealand for about 12 months.
