GENERAL FORECAST. The anti-cyclone is now to the east of New Zealand. Pressure has falfen rapidly in tho south, but only slowly in the north; the depression now approaching the routl'eni part of the Dominion will be followed by a sharp rise of pressure so that conditions are favourable for a sharp southerly change when it passes. Northerly winds moderate to strong in most places but reaching gale at times in and south of Cook Strait. A change to strong southerlies may be expected in the south later and to extend gradually northward. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and off-shore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly winds in the Eastern Tasman Sea, backing shortly to strong southerlies to gales; seas heavy in the southern portion and rough elsewhere. Weather unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect, more especially from Taranaki southward, with some rain. Later rain extending to most eastern districts. Temperatures mild, but a cold change working up from the south. DISTRICT REPORT. COLDER CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for northerly winds, moderate to strong at times, and backing by west to south. Expect mild and hazy conditions later. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, with rain following. Conditions will become colder. The barometer has a falling tendency after about 16 hours. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE.
