In view of the outstanding successes of Southland factories at London dairy shows, considerable interest was shown in the butter and cheese classes, the quality of the winning exhibits being very high. The most successful competitor was the Awarua factory, which secured the championship for most points, winning in three classes and gaining second place in two and third in the South Island championship class, which was won bv the Fairfax factory. J CANTERBURY MARKETS. Per Press Association. . CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. lhe grain and produce market continues quiet, with little business passing. Wheat is now in shorter supply, and it is assumed that most of the “free” wheat hns been disposed of. There is very little alteration m values, which to-day are 5s 8d to 5s 6d for Tuscan, 5s 9d to 5s lOd for Hunters, and 5s lid to 6s for Pearl; on trucks in each cose, Fowl wheat is hard to obtain at 6s lid f.0.b., s.e. There is a good demand from the North Island. Oats in Canterbury ‘are extremely hard to obtain, and buyers who have to obtain immediate supplies here have to pay 3d and 4d over the quotations in the south. Oats cannot be bought for Lyttelton shipment under 4s Id f.0.b., s.i. A grade Gartons are worth about 3s bd on trucks and B’s 3s 3d. There is not a great deal of chaff offering, and the price remains firm at £5 to £5 2s 6d per ton on trucks. Not much business is being done in potatoes at the present on-trucks price of £3 to £3 5s per ton. The prompt position is weak, but the forward position is a little stronger. The May-June quotation is £4 10s; July, £5 2s 6d; and July-Septembfcr, £5 10s to £5 12s 6d. It is reported that in South Canterbury, where there was an increased acreage and a good crop, farmers are inclined to hold supplies, and their Idea of values is £3 15s a ton on trucks. The onion market continues lifeless at the nominal value of 30s to 35s a ton. There is scarcely any business passing in small seeds, and values for them are unaltered. Merchants agree that less seed has been bought for sowing this season than in any other season for many years. i BRADFORD DISPUTE. (Times Cables.) LONDON, May 13. The rises ranged from 30s a ton to £4 7s 6d a ton, the latter being for standard copper for forward delivery.

WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Eight sales were recorded on tho Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, two being Government securities ‘ and two of bank shares. The demand, though still good, was not as widely spread as on tho -previous day. Government securities were quiet but firm, The 44 per cent, bonds (1941, 1939 and 1938) were stoady at £9B; and 44 per cent, bonds (1930) were also firm at £99 ss. The 54 per cent, bonds (1933) were again in domand at £99 ss. The 44 per cent, stocks (1939 and 1938) wero steady at £9B. The demand for debentures eased and the only inquiry was for Golden Bay Cement debentures at 15s 6d. Bank shares wero in good demand with very little movement. Bank of Australasia at‘ £l2 3s, and Australian Bank of Commerce at 23s 9d were unchanged. Commercial Bank of Australia, ordinary, wero up 3d at 20s 6d; National Bank of Australasia, £lO paid, at £l4 17s wero Is 6d higher; and tho £5 paid wero Is higher at £7 7s; Bank of New South Wales were up 2s 6d at £3B 17s 6d; Bank of New Zealand at 57s 9d were up 2d, but the long term mortgage shares were unchanged at 26s 6d. Union Bank were up Is at £ll ss. English, Scottish and Australian Bank were in demand at £6. Goldsbrough Mort and Co. were up 4d at 31s 4d and sellers asked 32s 3d. Dalgety and Co. were unchanged at £ll 2s 6d. National Mortgage were wanted at 60s or on a parity with last sale. Wellington Deposit at 9s 4d were 2d down. New Zealand Insurance were in demand at 43s 3d, and South British Insurance wore unchanged at 58s. Huddart, Parker ordinary at 36s 6d were 5d lower, but Union Steam preference at 20s 7d were up Id. Crown Brewery wore steady at 8s 9d. New Zealand Breweries were up 6d at £2 12s 3d, and there were two sales at £2 12s 6d. Burns, Philp and Co. were down 9d at 335, but British Tobacco were up 9d at 37s 9d. Electrolytic Zinc were Is higher at 263. Wilson’s Cement were up tid at 41s 6d cum. dividend.
