TEE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The anti-cyclone over New Zealand is gradually giving way and moving eastward. A rather vigorous depression is moving on to the South-West Tasman Sea. Winds northerly and freshening; gale force probable at times in CooTc and Foveaux Straits. Seas rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and rising generally south of Cape Egmont. Freshening northerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather cloudy in western districts and scattered showers developing from Taranaki southward; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures mild, especially in eastern districts. Unsettled weather with fairly general rain probable about the middle of the week.
DISTRICT REPORT. CLOUDY ANdIjNSETTLED. Tho Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day:—The indications are for northerly winds, moderate to strong to gale after about 36 hours and backing by west to south. Tho weather appears likely to ho cloudy and unsettled with rain following after about 30 hours. The conditions will probably become very cold. Tho barometer is falling. MANAWATU river gauge. Noon. —6ins.
