OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 12. A four-roomed, house at New Brighton, was destroyed by fire at 1.30 o’clock this morning. The dwelling was owned by Mrs M. Clegg, of Christchurch, and occupied by Mr L. 0. Belletto and family. The occupants of the house had a narrow escape. Mr Belletto was awakened by a child coughing and found the house full of smoke. Two of the children had to be lowered from a window. HOTEL DESTROYED. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, May 12. A report was received here this evening stating that the hotel at Kingston was destroyed by fire this morning. The licensee was Mrs Ethel Ella Thomson, and the owner, Mr John Butson, a farmer near Lum.sden. Tho building was a very old one and was insured for £IOOO. It is believed that the stock and furniture were also covered by insurance, but the licensee will bo a heavy loser.
