GOLF OVERSEAS.
AMERICAN PLAYERS IN ENGLAND. LONDON, May 11. The American golfers’ .attempt to capture all the British honours, including tho retention of tho Walker Cup and the three championships, is not regarded as less likely of success because of their defeat in the St. George’s Vase at Sandwich, when the youngest British Walker Cup player, Rex Hartley, aged 24, beat Dr. Willing, aged 40, tho oldest American, by 79 and 85 after a tie with 148 on the previous day. Willing tied with Ouimet in tho same competition in 1923, and lost the replay by three strokes. Ron Michael, ex-champion of Australia, with 150, was placed fourth. The form of some of - the British players is so disappointing that certain critics urge that they should be .replaced. The American invasion proper begins with the women’s championship to-morrow. The Walker Cup will Le played at Sandwich on Thursday and Friday.
